Last night the Poetry in Motion Open Mic at Ellie’s Cafe turned into Ladies Night. With only the Mr. Luckey and two other founding poets being male, all the other poets who came to the mic were female. A first time poet opened the show, was shown much love for her work, got inducted into the family of poets and renamed.
From young to old, the works ranged from positive energy to relationships, from racism to cussing, up to beautiful hair, around music to memoir and tattoos. And best of all, almost all of the energy was female. You missed a fun night and some really good poetry. The keys were shaking hard, the laughter bubbled and the insights were golden. Clear your calendar for the third Saturday in June when the adults gather again to express themselves in rhythm and rhyme.
If you are a budding poet, don’t be shy, bring your work and step up to the stage. This is the place to break the ice, take the plunge, make your debut!
Bring your own adult libations, Ellie will provide the glasses. Get a set of jingly keys for everyone in your party, and come enjoy the food and the performances.
Next Adult Open Mic is Saturday, May 16th – Next Youth Open Mic is Saturday April 18th at
